Technology & Me

I found the good, old PowerPoint to be very helpful in creating a complete and comprehensive oral presentation. I felt it helped me to keep my train of thought on track. It is definitely a reminder of what the next point is that needs to be discussed. Interestingly, it also helped me to keep my nerves subdued by directing my audience to the screen and away from me. Funny thing-- it seems so easy (well, some professors make it seem that way that is) to just stand up in class and talk about whatever you want to talk about. It’s a whole different monster when it’s you who is up there talking and not somebody else.

I will say that in the last year to date, I have become aware of other mediums like Prezi, Microsoft Docs, and Wix. When comparing PowerPoint with Prezi, it is my impression that you can definitely do more with Prezi than you can with PowerPoint. So, I think I will definitely be using Prezi more from now on.

Let me preface by disclosing that I am without a doubt very tech-savvy challenged. Ergo, upon first working with Wix I was struggling. Grrrr… I believe that the combination of my own ineptness and Wix’s user unfriendliness, made my first (and second, and third,..) experience very challenging. Now, that I feel I have tamed the Wix, I can appreciate its benefits.

As for Wix, I don’t think that I will be using this form of media in any of my teaching experiences but I can definitely foresee using mostly Prezi.
